Box Score The Oglethorpe volleyball team lost its regular season finale on Tuesday evening, losing to Covenant in Lookout Mountain, Ga., 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 26-24).
The Lady Petrels led the first set 10-6 early on, but Covenant outscored them 19-6 over the remainder of the set to take a 1-0 lead.
In the second set, the two teams fought back and forth. Covenant took a 13-8 lead, but Oglethorpe came back with a mini-run to take a 16-14 lead. The home-standing Scots slowly came back to tie the score, 21-21, then scored the next four points in a row to take the set.
The third and final set was the closest yet. Covenant again took a 13-8 lead, and Oglethorpe again came back, this time to tie the match at 15-15. From there, the teams traded points for the rest of the set, with neither side leading by more than two points. Oglethorpe's latest came when they took a 20-19 lead. Covenant went on a mini-run to take a 23-21 lead, but the Lady Petrels tied the score at 24-24. The Lady Scots scored the final two points of the set to take the match.
Outside hitter McKenna Bondarenko slammed home 15 kills in the match, and contributed eight digs. Setter Anna Marie Disalvo passed out 25 assists and libero Megan MaKuck came up with 22 digs in the losing effort.
The Lady Petrels finish the regular season with a 9-15 record They will travel back to Mount Berry, Ga., on Firday to compete in the SAA Tournament.
