Box Score The Oglethorpe volleyball team fell to 0-9 in SAA play Sunday, losing a 3-1 decision to Centre in Danville, Ky.
The Petrels dropped the first two sets in this one. In the first set, they fell behind 23-12, but mounted a comeback to pull to within six, 24-18. Unfortunately, it was too late to salvage the set, as Centre only needed one more point to secure it. They won the set, 25-18.
The second set had a very similar feel, as the Petrels again found themselves with a large deficit, 24-14. The Petrels again mounted a mini rally, pulling to within six again, 24-18. Again, though, Centre won the next point and the set, 25-18.
Oglethorpe answered in the third set, pulling ahead 7-3 in the early going, then pushing that lead out to six points, 14-8. Centre pulled back to within three, 15-12, but Oglethorpe went on a 7-3 run to take a 22-15 lead. Oglethorpe closed the set out, 25-19, and earned the chance to play in a fourth set.
However, the fourth did not at all go well for the Petrels. They fell behind 11-2 before going a three-point run to make it 12-6. From there, though, the Petrels took only one more point for the remainder of the set, as Centre closed out the match, 25-7.
Setter Anna Marie DiSalvo led the team with 16 assists, while libero Megan Makuck led the squad with 14 digs.
The 4-11 Petrels will now enter the home portion of their schedule, as they do not go on the road again until the SAA Tournament. They'll take on in-state rival Berry at 7 p.m. on Thursday from Dorough Field House to start the home run.
