The Oglethorpe volleyball team dropped to 0-3 in SAA play Tuesday evening, losing 3-0 to Berry in Mount Berry, Ga.

The Petrels jumped out on Berry early, taking a 9-1 lead in the first set. That string was matched by Berry, though, as they immediately came back to tie the set, 10-10. The teams traded two-point runs to make it 12-12, then Berry took a 14-13 lead. Oglethorpe won three points in a row to take the lead back, 16-14. However, Berry took complete control from there, finishing the set on an 11-5 run to win it, 25-21.

The second set did not go well for the Petrels at all. They fell behind 13-4 early, putting them behind the eight-ball for the set. They did come back briefly to cut the deficit to 13-7, but Berry put the set away from there, outscoring the Petrels 12-6 the rest of the way to win 25-13. 

In the third set, the Petrels jumped out to a 4-1 lead. However, the home-standing Vikings came back to take a 17-12 lead. The Petrels embarked on an 8-2 run to pull to within a single point, 19-18. The teams traded three-point runs to make the score 22-21, but Berry won the next three points to take the set 25-22, and secure the victory.

Junior setter Anna Marie DiSalvo recorded 24 assists while junior libero Megan Makuck tallied 16 digs. McKenna Bondarenko and Erin Shelton shared the team lead in kills with eight apiece.

The now 3-5 Petrels will quickly be back in action, as they take on Agnes Scott in Decatur, Ga., tomorrow night at 7 p.m. They will then embark on their first weekend SAA road trip of the season, taking on Rhodes on Saturday and Hendrix on Sunday.
