The Oglethorpe volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-18) defeat at the hands of Hendrix Sunday afternoon in Conway, Ark. The loss drops the Petrels to 4-7 on the season, 0-5 in SAA play.

In the first set, the Petrels had an 11-10 lead after trading points with the home-standing Warriors much of the set. However, from that point, Hendrix went on a huge run, winning the next eight points and 15 of the final 16. This allowed them to cruise to a 25-12 first-set victory.

In the second set, the Petrels fell behind 5-0 in the early-going. Petrels setter Anna Marie DiSalvo also suffered an injury early in the set, putting the Petrels behind the 8-ball even further. Oglethorpe further fell behind 12-4, but mounted a rally from there, allowing them to pull within two, 12-10. However, Hendrix ended the set on a 13-4 run from there, closing out the set, 25-16.

In the third set, the Petrels went ahead 7-4 in the early-going, but Hendrix came back to rattle off nine straight points and take a 13-7 lead. Hendrix continued their run and built a 20-12 lead, needing just five points to put away the match. The Petrels cut the lead to four, 22-18, but Hendrix finished from there, winning three straight points to close out the set, 25-18, and the match.

Junior defensive specialist Kayley Earley filled in at setter for DiSalvo after she went down and recorded 10 assists for the game. Sophomore outside hitter led the team with six kills and no Petrel recorded more than five digs.

The team will next take the court on Saturday, when they travel to Jackson, Miss., to take on Millsaps at 6 p.m. Eastern. They then travel through Birmingham, Ala., to take on Birmingham-Southern on Sunday.
