The Petrels quickly fired back with a 7-2 run, allowing them to tie the set at 16-apiece. From there, the Majors created a 6-1 run, but the Petrels immediately followed up with a 4-1 run, putting the score at 23-21 in favor of the Majors. Millsaps was able to hold on and come away with the victory in the first set, 25-22.

Early in the second set, the Petrels found themselves down 5-0, but they were able to cut the lead in half, putting the score at 6-3 in favor of Millsaps. Later in the set, the Petrels went on a 3-0 minirun, allowing them to reduce the Majors lead to 13-9. After that, the Majors promptly started an 8-2 run, which pushed their lead to 21-12. This run would ultimately prove to be enough for the Majors to secure the second set. They went on to win it 25-14.

The third and final set proved to be similar to the previous set with the Majors creating a 5-1 advantage. The Petrels countered with a 5-2 run, allowing themselves to come within one point of tying, 7-6. The Majors refused to let the Petrels tie the set, though, as they went on a 9-3 run, extending their lead to 16-9. Both teams would go on to score six points each, moving the score to 22-16. The Majors would finish the set on a 3-0 run, taking it down 25-16.

The Petrels finished the match with some strong performances by key players. Sophomore libero Taryn North ended the match with 19 digs, tying for the match high. Additionally, freshman outside hitter Jacoby Sims finished the contest with eight kills.

"Today was a tough match," said Oglethorpe head coach Joseph Goodson, "but we're just continuing to learn. We're a bit inconsistent right now from match to match and from set to set. We have to keep fighting, though. We've got a chance to win some matches this week with contests against teams that we'll have to play well to beat, but the opportunity is out there."

On Thursday, the Petrels will travel to Demorest, about an hour northeast of Atlanta, to face Piedmont for the second matchup between the two teams this season. On Saturday, Oct. 21, the Petrels will return home to take on SAA rival Sewanee at 1 p.m. The following day, they will host their final home match of the season at noon against Centre.
