Box Score ATLANTA—After winning the first set in quick and easy fashion, Oglethorpe's volleyball team fell in each of the next three on the way to a four-set loss (15-25, 25-12, 25-17, 25-18) to Rhodes Saturday afternoon in Dorough Field House.
Ellie Alfonso led the way for the Stormy Petrels with 13 kills alongside seven digs and five service aces. Five other Petrels registered at least four kills although the rest were held to only five kills. Emma Williams' stat line featured four kills, 24 assists and 10 digs while Jackie Schner had five kills and nine digs.
Oglethorpe looked well on its way to snapping its four-match losing streak with an 18-7 run to open the match. It featured a 9-0 run to cap it off, during which time Alfonso recorded two service aces and Ta'Korya Green and Emelia Sengstock each registered a kill. The Stormy Petrels used that momentum to take the opening game 25-15 but Rhodes answered with similar wins in each of the next three games.
The Lynx went ahead 15-7 in game two, 6-1 in game three, and 6-1 in game four, leading the whole rest of the way beginning early in the second game.
Kylee Zimmer posted a team-high 11 digs while the Petrels tallied nine aces and 10 block assists as a team.
Oglethorpe turns around quickly for another Southern Athletic Association match Sunday at 12 p.m., welcoming Hendrix. The Petrels will then be on the road for their next five matches after that.
