Petrels fall short up north

Box Score

WENHAM, Mass.- Despite a hard-fought game from Oglethorpe's women's basketball team, the score stayed tipped to the Mammoth's favor throughout Friday night's game against Amherst College. The Petrels lossed by a score of 53-36.

The first quarter quickly went to the Amherst Mammoths, but the Petrels got it back close in the second quarter when Taylor Smith made a free throw to bring the score to 15-10. However, the Mammoths quickly drew ahead and continued to pull away up until the final seconds of the quarter when the Petrels called a timeout. Sydni Donovan and Savannah LeGate led the team in the third quarter, but the Mammoths pulled slightly ahead to 42-30. LeGate made two free throws and layups in this quarter; Donovan did the same.

The Mammoths pulled even further ahead throughout the fourth quarter. With just two seconds remaining on the clock, Wylie Sheridan made two free throws to end the game at 53-36.

Oglethorpe will stay up in Wenham, Massachusetts, for its next game on Saturday as they play against Gordon College at 3 p.m.
