Gordon nabs win from women's basketball team

Box Score

WENHAM, Mass. – Oglethorpe fought hard to catch up to Gordon College, but ultimately fell short as the Petrels lost with a score of 64-56.

The Petrels started out strong, with Taylor Smith making the first score of the game, a layup with just 9:57 on the clock.

Gordon stayed just a few points ahead of Oglethorpe until the third quarter, when they began to pull farther ahead until several made free throws and a couple of baskets from Savannah LeGate. The Petrels were ahead of Gordon at two separate points in the third quarter, until Gordon made a buzzer-beating layup to end the third quarter at 47-45.

The fourth quarter looked promising as the Petrels pulled ahead to 53-52 thanks a LeGate layup. Unfortunately, the Petrels couldn't hold that lead as the fourth quarter timed out with a final score of 64-56.

This loss puts Oglethorpe's women's basketball team at 0-4 for the season.

The team is on the road again as they travel to Danville, Kentucky, on Friday to play Maryville at 5 p.m. EST. The next home game for the women's team will be Wednesday, Nov. 24, at 1 p.m. at Dorough Field House.
