Box Score ATLANTA—The Oglethorpe women's basketball team traveled the short distance to Emory Wednesday for a nonconference game and came up on the short end of an 84-38 decision. Carley Bell and Emma Perna led the Stormy Petrels with eight points apiece.
Oglethorpe led 9-8 in the early going, but Emory, receiving votes in the latest NCAA top 25 poll, used a 12-0 run starting late in the first quarter to go into the lead for good, and the Eagles never looked back. The 12-0 run was followed by a 9-4 run to help put them ahead 42-22 at the halftime break.
Behind Bell and Perna, 10 other Petrels made their way into the scoring column. Next was Amy Vazquez with four and Rose Dolmovich and Rachel Dolmovich both with three.
Up next, Oglethorpe opens Southern Athletic Association play with a home game against Berry Saturday at 5 p.m. The Petrels were picked as the SAA preseason favorite according to the preseason coaches poll.
