Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ATLANTA – Another couple of team efforts led Oglethorpe's volleyball team to a clean sweep of the 2021 Stormy Petrel Classic. Jackie Schner and Emma Williams were named to the all-tournament team, and the Petrels did not drop a set in winning all three matches of the weekend.

Friday night saw Oglethorpe top LaGrange 25-13, 25-10, 25-16; Saturday saw Oglethorpe top Maryville 25-21, 25-17, 25-16 in the morning and Piedmont 25-8, 25-12, 25-13 in the evening. The Stormy Petrels were one of three teams to go undefeated in the tournament but the only team to sweep all three matches. It marked the team's fifth win in the last six matches.

"I am very proud of the cohesive play our team displayed this weekend," said head coach Anna Braun. "Our serving was aggressive and consistent which kept our opponents out of system. Our defense remained organized and efficient. Overall, I am pleased with our performance this weekend and eager to prepare for our first week of SAA competition."

Tournament numbers

Three Petrels made it to 20 kills, led by Schner with 25 alongside 30 digs and five blocks. Williams tallied 23 kills alongside 23 assists, 15 digs and 11 blocks, and Briella Kohler had 21 kills. Gabbi Phillips assisted 28 of Oglethorpe's kills to lead that category, and Kylee Zimmer had 31 digs to lead the defensive effort.

Oglethorpe also put up an impressive number of service aces with 30 and total team blocks with 23. Sophia St. Clair tallied nine of the aces and Kinsey Wilson had three solo blocks.

Oglethorpe 3, Maryville 0

Maryville looked sharp after nearly forcing a fifth set against undefeated Averett Friday night, but the Petrels were quick to put the Scots away. They used a 6-0 run early in the first set and another 6-0 run to start the second set before ultimately winning the match on a 5-1 run in the third set.

The middle 6-0 run featured two kills from Williams and a Phillips service ace, while an 8-2 run later in the middle set featured kills on back-to-back points from Kohler and Green to cap the run. Zimmer finished off the match with a service ace.

Kohler and Wilson finished with seven kills. Williams had six kills, and Phillips had 18 assists. Schner posted 11 digs next to Zimmer's seven digs.

Oglethorpe 3, Piedmont 0

The final match of the tournament may have been the quickest match of the tournament.

Oglethorpe opened the match on a 17-4 run and kept its foot on the pedal the rest of the way. The Petrels started the second set on an 8-2 run and the third set on a 9-1 run. In all three cases they took the first three points, including winning the first six points of the finale.

Kohler led Oglethorpe with 11 kills, the first of 10 Petrels in the kill column. Zimmer and Schner both posted 11 digs, and Melanie Davis led the team with 10 assists alongside nine digs.
