Box Score LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.—Jackie Schner posted a double-double and Kinsey Wilson put up her career high in kills, but Oglethorpe's volleyball team lost in five (20-25, 25-20, 25-18, 12-25, 15-4) at Covenant in a nonconference match Wednesday night. The Stormy Petrels rallied from down two sets to one to force a fifth but came up short.
Schner's line included 15 kills and 10 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Wilson added 11 kills, Ellie Alfonso chipped in with nine kills and 17 digs, and Emma Williams posted a solid effort with eight kills, eight digs and 18 assists.
Gabbi Phillips tallied 24 assists, and Kylee Zimmer had 18 digs.
Oglethorpe started the match hot, opening things up on a 9-3 run which helped the Petrels win the first set 25-20. Williams put down back-to-back kills late in the frame as part of Oglethorpe's 5-0 run where they pulled away for the final time in that game.
Covenant would answer right back, though, going on mini runs of its own in the second and third set to take the lead. In the fourth, Oglethorpe looked to regain control of the match with a lethal 8-0 run starting with kills on four straight points from Ta'Korya Green, Williams and Alfonso (two). The run saw Oglethorpe go ahead 16-6, and the Petrels ended up winning the fourth game easily, but Covenant again turned it around in the final frame with victories on five straight points on three occasions.
Oglethorpe posted another strong blocking effort with two solo blocks and 10 assisted blocks, the latter coming mostly from Williams (four) and Wilson (three). Green tallied both solo efforts.
Up next, Oglethorpe comes home for the weekend for two Southernn Athletic Association matches. The Petrels will face Rhodes Saturday at 12 p.m. and Hendrix Sunday at 12 p.m.
