Box Score ATLANTA— The Oglethorpe men's basketball team defeated Centre 85-69 at home on Sunday afternoon. This was their third Southern Athletic Association win in a row, all of which have been by double digits. The Petrels' conference record is now 4-1.
"We got out to a hot start, but then let them get back in it," said Head Coach Philip Ponder after the win. "But I thought we played really well in the second half on both sides of the court. I like the fact that we had all five starters in double figures and good contributions from the guys coming in off the bench as well. It's always good to get a weekend sweep."
Lane Foster, who broke the program's all-time assist record last game, added seven more in Sunday's game to total 414 career assists. Foster also contributed 12 points. Dimetri Chambers led the Petrels in scoring with 26 points, serving as his 34th career game scoring 20 or more points.
A 12-0 run early in the first half ultimately set Oglethorpe apart from Centre. The two teams played closely for the rest of the game. The Petrels led by six at halftime with the score at 42-36, but later in the second half, a 7-0 run allowed Oglethorpe to really push ahead in the last five minutes to win the game.
Conference play will continue for the Petrels on Friday as they are scheduled to travel to Millsaps. The game is set to start at 9 p.m. eastern time.
