Box Score ATLANTA – The Oglethorpe women's basketball team opened the game on a 25-8 run on the way to a 63-48 victory over Centre Sunday in a Southern Athletic Association game. Three Stormy Petrels reached double figures for scoring in the win, including Emma Perna with a career high 10.
The Petrels won their second straight SAA game, sweeping the weekend after topping Sewanee by a similar one-sided scoreline Friday night.
"This was a great weekend," said Head Coach Alex Richey. "This group is showing a lot of character to continue to compete and work hard even though results had not been where we wanted them up to this point. Defensively, we are learning and growing every day, and offensively, we are playing unselfish and valuing each possession by taking care of the ball. I'm very proud of our group and looking forward to what comes next for them."
Oglethorpe showed its defense in the early stages. Not only did the Petrels hold the Colonels to eight points until midway through the second quarter, but they also held the Colonels to only two made field goals through the first 14 minutes. By then, Oglethorpe led by what would prove to be the difference in the game.
Carley Bell led the Petrels with 13 points and five assists to go along with four rebounds. Jessamy Gaetanos had her second straight double-digit scoring game with 11, and Rose Dolmovich had another solid game with a career high four assists alongside five points. Ten Petrels made their way into the scoring column.
Sydni Donovan, Sydney Bumgardaner and Wylie Sheridan led the rebounding effort with seven, six and five, respectively. Donovan added three blocked shots.
Up next, Oglethorpe hits the road for Millsaps and Birmingham Southern next weekend before returning home for the following two weekends.
