Box Score ATLANTA - The Oglethorpe men's basketball team took the court on Sunday afternoon to face cross-town rival Emory University. Emory led the whole game with a final score of 87-65.
Dimetri Chambers led Oglethorpe in scoring with 25 points and this was his 31st career game scoring 20 or more points. Uba Ezigbo also contributed 12 points.
At the end of the first half, the Petrels trailed by 11 with the score at 47-36. Starting the second half, Oglethorpe had a 7-0 run to get it within four points, but Emory answered back with a 10-0 run to pull ahead by double digits.
"Emory was just better than us today," said Head Coach Philip Ponder. "They are an NCAA tournament caliber team that brought their A game today. I thought we came out well after halftime, and cut it to four points, but they just pulled away from there. Our goal was to make them beat us from the perimeter, as they had not been shooting the ball well, but they shot the lights out today. That, coupled with the fact that they dominated the glass, was not a good recipe for us. You're not going to win many games getting outrebounded 50-26. We just have to put this one behind us and get ready for conference play."
Up next, Oglethorpe will travel to face Hendrix on Friday at 9 p.m. ET for their first Southern Athletic Association road game.
