ATLANTA -- The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels hosted the Hendrix Warriors for their second and final regular season meeting Saturday in Dorough Field House. The Petrels would go on to lose in three straight sets, each one of them a close game.Â
The first set went in Hendrix's favor 25-20, that five-point victory the largest margin of defeat. The second set featured a three-point loss for Oglethorpe 25-22, while the third and final set went into extra points before the Warriors would ultimately win 26-24.
The offensive side of the net had a strong showing from the upperclassmen senior Jackie Schner and junior Ellie Alfonso. Alfonso led the team with 13 kills followed by Schner's nine kill. Sophomore Gabbi Phillips added two service aces and 19 assists.
Defensively, juniors Kaitlyn Bassett and Cate Rosenthal led with eight and four blocks, respectively, while Sofia Cendoya had a game-high 19 digs. Alfonso and Phillips recorded 10 digs each. Â
The Stormy Petrels moved to 10-8 on the season and 5-6 in Southern Athletic Association play, which puts them fourth in the conference standings one spot above the Warriors despite the loss.
