ATLANTA-- Ameya Dani, Daniel Cohen and Zoe Raymond all won twice, and the Oglethorpe men's tennis team opened the season with a 6-3 victory over Covenant Saturday afternoon.

Dani and Cohen combined for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles before turning around and quickly handling their opponents in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Dani won 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 and Cohen won 6-2, 6-2. Raymond won his No. 3 doubles match before winning in straight sets at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-2. 

Kirkman Kiker also pulled off an important win in the middle of the lineup with a third set super tiebreaker over Solomon Crouch at No. 4 singles. Kiker lost the first set in a breaker before winning the second set and super easily (6-7, 6-3, 10-2). 

"I am really pleased with how well we played today," said Head Coach Paul Danielson. "We had hard matches on every line, and both teams just kept fighting."

Up next, Oglethorpe heads to Huntingdon on Friday, Feb. 25, and Southern Athletic Association member Berry on Saturday, March 5. The Petrels will be home again on Friday, March 11, against Belhaven.
