Postseason play continues for basketball

ATLANTA—The Southern Athletic Association championship tournament resumes on Saturday, and the Oglethorpe men's and women's teams have both advanced to the semifinals after their big wins on Sunday.

Men vs. Hendrix | Saturday, Feb. 26, 6 p.m.

After a huge comeback win for the men's team on Sunday afternoon, Oglethorpe has advanced to the semifinals of the SAA tournament to face Hendrix. Hendrix defeated Rhodes 90-42 in another quarterfinal matchup. Berry, the regular season champion, will host both the semifinals and the finals of the tournament in Rome, Georgia, on Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 26-27.

The other semifinal matchup features Berry and Birmingham Southern. The two teams are set to play at 4 p.m. right before Oglethorpe and Hendrix. The outcome of the two games will determine who will advance to the final round of the tournament on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Stormy Petrels played Hendrix twice this season, and both games had different outcomes. Hendrix is one of only three teams in the league to have defeated the Petrels this season, so the semifinals looks to be an intense matchup.

The first game was in early January, and Hendrix defeated the Petrels 83-72. The last game was on Feb. 4, and Oglethorpe won 84-82 on Dimetri Chambers' late game-winning 3-pointer. Oglethorpe's conference record for the season was 11-3, and Hendrix's was 9-5.

Women vs. Berry | Saturday, Feb. 26, 4 p.m. ET

Oglethorpe dominated the SAA quarterfinals with a huge 108-84 upset win over Birmingham Southern on Sunday afternoon. The Petrels are set to play Berry in the semifinals of the SAA tournament after Berry won the other quarterfinal matchup 50-42 against Sewanee. The game will be at 4 p.m., after the first semifinal game.

The other semifinal matchup features Rhodes and Centre. Rhodes finished the regular season with a perfect 12-0 conference record and will host the semifinals and the finals of the tournament as the top seed in the league. The outcome of the games will determine who will advance to the final round of the tournament on Sunday.

The Petrels have been defeated by Berry twice this season. The first time was early in the season and the final score was 55-41. The most recent was the final regular season game where the two teams went back and forth, but Oglethorpe eventually fell with a final score of 45-42. Oglethorpe's conference record was 4-9, and Berry's was 10-3.
