Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Sydnee Jackson scored a career high 14 points, Sydni Donovan tallied her sixth double-double of the season, and Oglethorpe's women's basketball team advanced to the final of the Southern Athletic Association tournament with a 63-55 win over Berry evening afternoon.
"Our team's character and resiliency showed today and I could not be more proud of them," said Head Coach Alex Richey after the win. "We talk about playing for championships at Oglethorpe year-in and year-out, and with all that we have been through this year, to have the opportunity to do so again is something we could not be more excited about."
Oglethorpe scored the first eight points on the way to the eight-point win. It helped the Stormy Petrels lead the whole way, including by as many as 13 in the first half.
Berry, which defeated Oglethorpe in both regular-season meetings, cut the deficit to four, 47-43, early in the fourth quarter, before Oglethorpe answered with an 11-3 run which helped seal the win. Taylor Smith had a big and-one early in that run to make it a 10-point game again, and Jackson scored four of her game-high 14 points on that run.
Four Petrels reached double figures for scoring. After Jackson, Smith and Donovan scored 13 and Emma Perna scored 12. Donovan's 13 points came alongside 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season and ninth double-double of her career. She also tallied five assists and six blocks. Jackson grabbed six rebounds.
With the win, Oglethorpe advanced to the championship game, set for Sunday at 3 p.m. ET, 2 p.m. local time. The Stormy Petrels will face tournament host Rhodes, which topped No. 4 seed Centre 74-66 in the earlier semifinal game.
