ATLANTA – Sydney Dattilo's 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 1 singles spot modeled an easy sweep for the rest of the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels, who defeated Agnes Scott 9-0 Saturday in a local nonconference match.
Oglethorpe's lineup combined in both singles and doubles to drop only 12 games on the day. Dattilo lost only one, Alexis Salgueiro, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, lost only one, and Brianna Ali lost none at No. 4 singles. Izzy Forster and Lily Allyene lost only one game, 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Dattilo and Salgueiro swept their doubles match 8-0.
The match saw Oglethorpe remain undefeated after the Petrels topped Covenant 6-3 in the season opener last weekend. Alyssa Merletti won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Adeline Horton won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 5 singles.
Four Petrels now have singles records that match Oglethorpe's 2-0 mark: Dattilo, Merletti, Salgueiro and Ali.
Up next, Oglethorpe opens Southern Athletic Association play with a road match at Berry on Saturday, March 5. The next home match for the Petrels is set for Friday, March 11, against Belhaven.
