ATLANTA – Daniel Cohen won his team-leading third singles match of the season, and the Oglethorpe men's tennis team stayed perfect with an 7-2 win over Belhaven Friday evening at Downing Howell Tennis Courts.
Cohen improved to 3-0, as did the Stormy Petrels, after winning handily, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 singles. Vincent Claussen, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, Cameron Burkes, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, and Tony Molinet, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, also won easily.
Ameya Dani and Aydan Grossman both went the distance but came up short in a third set super tiebreaker. Dani lost his 10-5 before Grossman lost his 10-7.
Oglethorpe opened the match with victories in all three doubles matches. This included one that went to a tiebreak, as Dani and Cohen topped Gaspar Meda and Bryce Livingston 9-8 (7-4) at No. 1 doubles. Claussen and Kirkman Kiker won 8-3 at No. 2, and Zoe Raymond and Burkes won 8-2 at No. 3. Raymond and Burkes improved to 3-0 as a doubles pair.
Oglethorpe next faces SCAD Atlanta next Friday, March 18, at home at 2 p.m. The Petrels will then be on the road for five matches before the start of Southern Athletic Association play, which starts in April.
