DANVILLE, Ky. --
Parker Hildebrecht drove in the tying run moments before
Carter Guarino drove in the winning run, and the Oglethorpe baseball team came out on top over Centre, 2-1, Friday evening in game one of the final Southern Athletic Association series of the season. Both Stormy Petrel runs came in the eighth inning to secure the victory.
Colby James pitched one of the best games of his career on the way to picking up the winning decision. He went 7.2 innings allowing only five hits and two walks alongside three strikeouts. His only blemish came in the third inning when a double came home to score two batters later on a sacrifice fly. James ran into a little trouble in the bottom of the eighth after the Petrels had taken the lead, letting two get on with two out, but
Jake Hill ended the threat with a popout. Then,Â
Will Marconi worked around a hit and a walk in the ninth to pick up the save.
Hildebrecht led the Petrels at the dish with a 3-for-3 effort. He also walked and drove in a run. Guarino went 2-for-3 and
Will Arnold went 2-for-5.
Oglethorpe and Centre will finish the series Saturday with a doubleheader set to start at 12 p.m. Oglethorpe can climb to third in SAA standings heading into the postseason tournament which starts next week.
