Petrels fall to Colonels in SAA quarterfinals

SEWANEE, Tenn. - After putting up a strong fight, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels were struck down 21-8 by the Centre College Colonels in the Southern Athletic Association tournament quarterfinals.

Four Petrels made their way into the scoring column, led by Taty Harris with four. Kaitlynn Alford and Ally Moir each scored two, and Kendall White scored once. Goalies Tori Perez and Asia Williams each made four saves.

Oglethorpe started the match off strong, as Harris scored the first goal of the game in just under a minute. The Petrels were able to stay ahead of the Colonels in the first quarter, thanks to Harris and Alford's goals. Although Oglethorpe headed into the second quarter on top at 4-3, Centre quickly caught up. The Petrels were unable to score in the quarter, as the Colonels made 11 goals and sent the game into a double-digit lead before halftime began.

Kendall White kicked off the third quarter with a goal for the Petrels, but Centre quickly retaliated. The Colonels were able to score three times in the third quarter, the Petrels only twice. Centre continued to score throughout the fourth quarter, down to the last seconds. Alford made the last goal for the Petrels with less than two minutes in the game, and the Colonels swooped in to score once more just before the buzzer, ending the match at 21-8.
