ATLANTA – Sydney Dattilo and Lily Allyene were victorious at No. 1 doubles, but it was near the only highlight of the day as both Oglethorpe tennis teams wrapped up the regular season with a loss to Sewanee. Oglethorpe lost 8-1 on the women's side and 9-0 on the men's side.
The loss marked the first of the season in Southern Athletic Association play for the men.
Dattilo and Allyene topped the No. 7 Tigers at the top doubles spot with an 8-6 win. The men's match saw three tiebreaks, but the No. 33 Tigers took all three. It started with a close match in the morning with Cameron Burkes and Zoe Raymond falling 8-7 (7-4), then Ameya Dani and Vincent Claussen had chances to win in a third set super tiebreaker but both fell short.
Dani and Claussen, in fact, both bounced back from a close 7-5 first-set loss to force the third.
With the regular season finished, Oglethorpe will turn its attention to the SAA Tournament, which is set for Friday-Sunday, April 29 – May 1, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. More information on the tournament schedule and matchups will be announced by the SAA next week.
