ATLANTA – Cameron Burkes and Zoe Raymond posted a resilient win at No. 3 doubles, and the Oglethorpe men's tennis team topped Rhodes 6-3 Sunday at Downing Howell Tennis Courts. Oglethorpe's women suffered a 9-0 loss despite coming off a big win Saturday over Hendrix.
Burkes and Raymond went to a tiebreak in their doubles match with the overall score 1-1 before quickly seeing themselves down 5-0 in the breaker. A quick refocus saw the pair turn things around equally as quick, as they won six straight points to regain the lead 6-5. Two points after that, Burkes hit a forehand winner down the line to secure the 8-6 win and give the Petrels a 2-1 lead through doubles.
Daniel Cohen provided the clinching point with a 6-1 win in a third set at No. 2 singles, although Burkes and Raymond still carried their momentum over into singles, where they both won easily at No. 5 and No. 6.
Cohen's victory saw him improve to 9-0 this season, which is one better than the team's record of 8-1. Raymond's win also kept him perfect at 7-0 on the year. Burkes improved to 7-1.
On the women's side, Izzy Forster and Sydney Dattilo had close matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, both forcing tiebreaks in their opening set, but the Petrels came up empty for their second SAA loss of the season.
