ROME Ga. – The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels fell 3-0 to the No. 2 seed Centre Colonels in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Athletic Association tournament Friday, bringing an end to Head Coach Olivia Tidmore's first season.
Ashlynn Stephens led with nine kills, followed by Cate Rosenthal with five. Sofia Cendoya and Stephens totaled eight digs. Autumn Lilly totaled 14Â assists. Â
Centre earned the first two points of the game, but Kaitlyn Bassett and Rosenthal quickly responded with kills of their own. The Petrels managed to stay right behind the Colonels for most of the first set, but Centre went on a seven-point run to gain a 23-14 lead. Oglethorpe earned one more point after a service error from the Colonels but fell 25-15. Â
The Colonels were the first to score once again, but Lilly and Bassett made kills that briefly put the Petrels in the lead. However, Centre dominated a majority of the set and won 25-13. Â
The third and final set played out in a similar fashion, with Centre claiming the first point then Stephens recording a kill. The Colonels won 25-14.Â
Oglethorpe graduates seven seniors: Ellie Alfonso, Kaitlyn Bassett, Sofia Cendoya, Maddie Drawdy, Cate Rosenthal, Kylee Zimmer and Anna Pinneau.Â
