Petrels fall at LaGrange

LAGRANGE, Ga.–Perry Robinson led with 12 points and seven rebounds, but the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels fell 71-57 to LaGrange Sunday evening, concluding their weekend in the Panthers' den.

After Robinson, Dylan Pumpian followed with nine points and four rebounds. Malachi Dooley recorded seven points, then Uba Ezigbo and Christian Williams both tallied six. Ezigbo also recorded six rebounds, and Jackson Kemp had three steals.

LaGrange earned the first points of the game, but Ezigbo quickly followed with a good jump shot. Even though the Panthers held the lead for most of the period, a free throw from Robinson tied the score at 22-22 with nearly nine minutes remaining. This tie held for almost three minutes as both sides made several attempts to pull ahead. Ultimately, it was the Panthers who claimed the go-ahead basket to go up 24-22. This turned into a 40-32 lead by the end of the period.

After halftime, LaGrange managed to strengthen their lead and kept the Petrels from getting close again. A layup from Brent Smith cut the gap to 58-54, but the Panthers ran away with the rest of the game.

"We were just out of sync all night," said Head Coach Philip Ponder. "We shot poorly all night but stayed within striking distance and made a nice run to cut it to four, but we went cold after that. Credit LaGrange; they played great defensively."
