ATLANTA—Ben Alram earned tournament MVP with Daniel Amah and JR Cozine also making the all-tournament team, and the Oglethorpe men's soccer program was crowned SAA postseason champions Sunday after a 3-0 victory against Rhodes in the final of the tournament. It was a historic day for the program as it was the first time that they won the SAA tournament since 2017.
The game was scoreless in the first half. However, the Stormy Petrels broke the deadlock in the 64th minute. Luke Ferrari headed the ball into the back of the net after a great cross from Alram during a set-piece play. It was Ferrari's first goal of the year.
Just four minutes later, the men in white and gold would score once again to double the lead. Javier Aponte was able to make a great run to the back post and fire the ball home after a great cross across the box, once again from Alram. It was also Aponte's first goal of the year. The goal that ultimately sealed the championship for Oglethorpe came in the 74th minute as Alram scored a world-class free kick. It was Alram's 13th goal of the season.
Winning the SAA regular season title and the championship was a true reflection of the team's capabilities. The Petrels instilled fear in any opponent they faced all season. However, this incredible year is not over yet for the team and coaching staff because they will now begin their NCAA campaign on Saturday, Nov. 11.
