Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball falls to No. 9 LaGrange

ATLANTA – A leadoff home run by Carson Weir put the Oglethorpe baseball team into the early lead over No. 9 LaGrange, but in the end the Stormy Petrels fell to the Panthers 8-2 at Hermance Stadium.

Weir's second home run of the season and fourth of his career went over the stone wall down the right field line and put Oglethorpe ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first. But, the Panther pitching would settle in and limit the Petrels to only one run the rest of the way. That run came in the bottom of the ninth when Jonathan Cruz drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk.

In the meantime, LaGrange plated eight runs on 10 hits and two Oglethorpe errors to secure its 10th win of the season.

Game Notes

  • Grant Guinther provided a big bright spot on the relief staff with four innings of work where he limited the Panthers to three hits and two runs, only one of which was earned. He struck out five.
  • Cruz extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a 1-for-4 effort.
  • Aiden Hosford saw his eight-game hitting streak end but drew two walks to extend his streak of reaching base to nine.
