ORLANDO – The Stormy Petrels have wrapped up their annual spring break trip at the USTA National Campus, which began with two tough losses until Oglethorpe picked up some steam on the second day and secured a win.
Day One Highlights
The Stormy Petrels began their trip with an 8-1 loss to Salisbury University. Kirkman Kiker and Sam Wasko combined for an 8-4 victory in No. 1 doubles.
Oglethorpe also faced the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire later in the day, which resulted in a 7-2 loss. Kiker saw a 3-6, 6-3, 10-4 victory in No. 1 singles, while Jefferson Page won 2-6, 7-5, 10-6 in No. 6 singles. Â
Day Two Highlights
Oglethorpe began the day with a hard-fought battle against Hobart College, but ultimately fell 6-3. Page won 6-3, 6-2 in No. 5 singles, Daniel Cohen saw a 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 victory in No. 2 singles, and Zack Raymond won 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 in No. 6 singles.Â
Later that day, Oglethorpe finished their matches with a 7-2 win against Goucher College. Cameron Burkes recorded a 6-1, 6-3 victory in No. 1 singles, Tony Molinet won 6-1, 6-3 in No. 6 singles, Cohen won 6-3, 6-2 in No. 1 singles, and Page won 6-4, 6-1 in No. 5 singles.
Kiker and Wasko combined for an 8-2 victory on No. 1 doubles, while Raymond and Cohen recorded an 8-6 victory in No. 2 doubles.Â
Tournament Notes
- This was Oglethorpe's first time facing Salisbury, Wisconsin – Eau Claire, Hobart, and Goucher in program history. Â
- While the men's matches were compressed into two days, the women's team had matches spread across three days.
- Page leads the team with a 6-2 singles record. Burkes and Cohen each have a 5-4 singles record.
- Kiker and Wasko moved to a 5-4 doubles record as a team. Â
