ATLANTA – Oglethorpe junior
Daniel Cohen won a thrilling two-set clinching match at No. 1 singles, and after a nail-biting Southern Athletic Association opener, the Stormy Petrels defeated Millsaps 5-4.
Cohen triumphed 7-5 in his first set after a back and forth opening sequence to the singles action. This includes a few breaks of serve, but Cohen would settle in and prevail in the close first set before clinching the match with a runaway 6-2 win in set two.
The win improved Cohen to 6-4 overall in singles, including 2-0 at the No. 1 spot.
Several other Petrels won in straight sets in singles.
Jefferson Page secured a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles while
Cameron Burkes won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, and
Kirkman Kiker won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
The day started with doubles action, and Cohen and Page combined for an 8-6 victory as Oglethorpe's lone point in doubles at No. 2.
