Volleyball dominates at LaGrange

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels moved back to the winning track after defeating the LaGrange Panthers 3-0 Saturday afternoon on the road.

Ashlynn Stephens led with eight kills, followed by Briella Kohler with seven. Kohler and Sofia Cendoya both recorded seven digs. As a team, Oglethorpe tallied 33 kills, a .264 attack percentage and 30 digs.

The Panthers were the first to score and managed to gain a decent lead over the Petrels. But, Oglethorpe persisted, and after a service ace from Kohler, the Petrels gained the lead and went on to a 25-17 victory.

The second set reflected the first with LaGrange being the first to earn a point, but this time Oglethorpe was eager to retaliate. The Petrels quickly climbed to a 6-1 lead and managed to keep a decent gap until late in the set. The Panthers were able to catch Oglethorpe off guard a few times, but the Petrels recorded another 25-17 victory thanks to a service ace from Cate Rosenthal.

The third and final set was a much tougher affair, with LaGrange earning the first point once again. Oglethorpe took the lead early on, but the Panthers remained close behind until the end. A service ace from Gabbi Phillips allowed the Petrels to pull ahead 15-11, creating the first big gap. LaGrange was able to close in once again at 18-16, but never managed to close said gap. The Panthers would only be allowed two more points, as a kill from Hannah Palmer and an attack error from LaGrange gave Oglethorpe a 25-18 set win for a 3-0 match victory.
