Women’s basketball rallies with big fourth quarter but falls at BSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Oglethorpe women's basketball team erased a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit to gain the lead but ultimately fell at Birmingham Southern 66-65 Sunday to wrap up a road weekend. Sophomore forward Keimarya Rivera led the Stormy Petrels with her third straight and eighth double-double of the season consisting of 27 points and 10 rebounds.

Birmingham Southern led 59-47 with four and a half minutes remaining in the game until the Petrels unleashed a torrid 17-2 run over three minutes that included a game-tying basket by Morgan Skipper with just over one minute left. Rivera followed it with a basket of her own a few seconds later to put Oglethorpe ahead by three, but the Panthers finished the game on a 5-1 run to take home the win.

Eight Petrels entered the scoring column, including Rivera, Skipper and Briley Elder in double figures. Skipper posted 11 points and five rebounds while Elder had 10 points and three assists.
