JACKSON, Miss.—During a road match Saturday afternoon, the Oglethorpe volleyball team surrendered to the Millsaps College Majors 3-0.
The first set was rocky for the Stormy Petrels with the Majors pulling ahead for the first half of the set. A kill from Gracie Sims helped Oglethorpe begin to catch up but it was not enough. In the end, they lost the set 25-18 after a kill from the Majors.
The Stormy Petrels started the second set with one of the 13 kills Ashlynn Stephens would execute in this match. This set was the closest of the three, but the Majors had pulled too far ahead and won the set 25-22.
The third and final set of the match started well for Oglethorpe after scoring the first two points before the Majors started fighting harder. The Stormy Petrels fell behind but did not go down without a fight. Four players reached double-digits in digs with Sims leading the pack with 15. Sadly, the Majors swooped in and won the set 25-20, which also gave them the match.
Oglethorpe will return home on Wednesday, Oct. 23, to face Berry College. They will stay home for the next three matches after that before heading off to Tennessee to play Sewanee.
