Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Chloe Clemensen

Men's basketball beats Earlham

ATLANTA – The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels defeated the Earlham Quakers 93-85 as senior Perry Robinson neared another double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds.

Mason Kemp followed with a career high of 19 points, going 4-5 for 3-point range and 6-7 from the field. Malachi Dooley posted 17 points while Jackson Kemp and Jordan James each posted 13, a season high for Kemp. Both Kemp twins put up five rebounds and James made four.

"We shot the ball really well again today," said head coach Philip Ponder. "Our offensive numbers in all three of our games this week have been really good. On the flip side, our defense hasn't been great this week, so that's something we are going to need to improve when we get back from a little time off, but it's nice to get a win heading into the break."

Robinson opened the game with a dunk, setting a precedent for the rest of the game. Robinson posted four points before the Quakers could make a basket. Oglethorpe held on to the lead for most of the period, with a sudden burst of energy from Earlham giving the Petrels a bit of a scare.

The Quakers only ever made a two-point gap, which was closed again by M. Kemp and Robert Reisman. Oglethorpe headed into halftime up 40-38.

Earlham went on a rampage in the second half, racking up a nine-point lead after just five minutes. A layup from James brought the score back to a 58-58 tie, but the Quakers pulled ahead once again. It took two layups from James and a stellar dunk by Dooley to give the Petrels another solid lead, which held for the final eight minutes. The game ended on a 7-3 run for a 93-85 win.

Game Notes

  • This was Oglethorpe and Earlham's first recorded matchup.
