ROME, Ga.—Briley Elder scored 14 points but the Oglethorpe women's basketball team lost its regular-season finale to Berry 57-53 Wednesday night on the road.
A huge and-one near the two-and-a-half-minute mark from Elder gave the Stormy Petrels a 49-46 lead, but Berry finished those last 150 seconds on an 11-4 run. This included connecting on a three on the next possession to tie the game at 49-49, then finishing their last six possessions with another basket and a 6-for-6 effort from the free throw line.
Free throws indeed were the final nail in the coffin. Oglethorpe trailed 53-50 with several looks underneath but could not cash in, then had to foul twice in the final 10 seconds. Elder hit another big three in those final 10 seconds to make it 55-53, but Berry once again made both free throws on the other end to seal the game.
