ATLANTA—Sam Mills doubled home a run in the bottom of the first inning, but the Oglethorpe baseball team quickly fell into a big hole and was defeated by Piedmont 12-5 Tuesday in a nonconference game at Hermance Stadium.
Piedmont responded with two runs in the second, one in the third and a four-spot in the fourth to go ahead 7-2. After that, the Petrels managed to trim the lead down to 7-5 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Brick Conway sparked the rally with a solo home run down the left-field line, then a Jaxson Corr ground ball and Nick Tarantino single up the middle rounded out what would be all the Petrels' runs for the game.
Jonathan Cruz had one of the other big highlights in the game with a solo home run in the third, his second of the season.
