MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels met the end of the 2024 season in the Southern Athletic Association quarterfinals, falling 16-8 at the hands of the Sewanee Tigers.
Senior Kaitlynn Alford led with four goals and a season high of eight draw controls. Ally Moir followed with two goals while Sydney Trammell recorded one goal, two assists and seven draw controls. Goalkeeper Tori Perez made 22 saves after facing 44 shots.
Sewanee scored the first three goals of the game and barred the Petrels from making any goals of their own. Oglethorpe fought fire with fire in the second quarter, with Alford and Anna Ramsden combining to even the score. The Tigers scored twice in the middle of the period, but Trammell and Moir combined for three more goals in the final 90 seconds. Thanks to the team's resilience, Oglethorpe headed into halftime up 6-5.
However, Sewanee went on a scoring spree in the third quarter, and the Petrels were unable to score. Alford scored twice in the fourth quarter, the last of which was with just 30 seconds remaining, but the Stormy Petrels fell 16-8.
