Men’s cross country takes runner-up, women’s pushes their limits

JACKSONVILLE, AL. - Oglethorpe's cross country teams recorded a great start to the 2024 season, filled with broken school records and PRs.

Men's Highlights

The team placed second, with their total time just one minute higher than host Jacksonville State's.
Oglethorpe's average time was 15:42.
Ashton Deriso broke yet another school record and PR by taking fourth place with a time of 15:14 in the 5k race.
Zachary Benner also set a new personal record, placing sixth with a time of 15:30.
Beck James was nine seconds behind Benner, taking ninth place and setting a new personal best.
Freshman Kameron Holmes beat the school record for freshman 5K time, getting 15:43 and 13th place.
Anthony Arredondo placed 46th with 16:23, a new personal best.
Ugohnofure Awarieta finished 74th with a PR time of 17:05.

Women's Highlights

Meet Notes

Five freshmen made their collegiate debut: Kameron Holmes, Mason Hill, Demetrius Moore, Sybella Bertolini and Fayana Garcia.
Senior Coltrane Cheatham also made his Oglethorpe cross country debut.
The majority of the other teams were NCAA Division I or Division II schools.
Oglethorpe's previous freshman 5K record of 16:00.4 was set by Zachary Benner in 2022.
