Box Score 3 ATLANTA -- On Friday afternoon, the Oglethorpe volleyball team started their 2024 season on a high with a three-set win against the Piedmont Lions. A great start for the Stormy Petrels to return to the court and Head Coach
Olivia Tidmore to start her second season. Oglethorpe followed the win with another win against Wilmington on Saturday before wrapping up the weekend tournament with a four-set loss to Covenant.
Most notablely, junior Maddison Williams had nine kills and one block throughout the match. The women as a whole had 42 kills, 36 digs, and 38 assists during their first match.Â
Oglethorpe's second game of the season against Wilmington College started on Saturday afternoon. The Stormy Petrels started with a much closer game when against the Quakers. They lost the first set but kept going and ended up winning the second by 11. That momentum carried over into the third and fourth sets and the Stormy Petrels ended up winning the match.
Senior
Briella Kohler had a total of 16 kills and six digs during the second match. She was closely followed by
Gracie Sims and
Camdyn George who also posted double-digit kills.
Finally, on Saturday evening the Stormy Petrels played the Covenant College Scots. They narrowly lost the first set before winning the second with many amazing plays by senior
Legacy Guider. After losing the third set, Oglethorpe moved on to the fourth set. It was close, but the Stormy Petrels lost the battle in a game that ended in 25-22.Â
The Stormy Petrels will play next on Friday, Sept. 6, in Raleigh, North Carolina, against Guilford College. They will stay in North Carolina the next day before going to Rome, Georgia. The next home game will be September 29 against Millsaps College at 12 p.m.
