ATLANTA – Despite another double-double from Perry Robinson, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels fell 100-97 to the Sewanee Tigers on Sunday.
Robinson led with 30 points and 13 rebounds, followed by Malachi Dooley with 21 points. Dylan Pumpian posted 17 points with six rebounds, Mason Kemp had 11 points, Jordan James 10 points, with both Kemp and James making five rebounds. Jackson Kemp made four assists.
"That was a great college basketball game," said head coach Philip Ponder. "Offensively, we had a really good game. Defensively, you can't give up 100 points and 54 points in the paint and expect to win too many games. We weren't able to get stops the last five minutes of the game at all. We are going to have to find a way to improve our defense. We've dug ourselves a little bit of a hole, but there's still a long way to go, and I have confidence in this team."
The Petrels and the Tigers proved to be a fair fight, with multiple ties in the first period. Half-time started 42-42, until Pumpian and Robinson combined for a 7-3 run to get a small lead in the second half.
Oglethorpe held a small lead during the second half, but Sewanee slowly climbed back. The Petrels mounted a comeback of their own in the final minute but ran out of time. Sewanee defeated Oglethorpe 100-97 on the second night of conference play.
