Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Chloe Clemensen

Men's basketball wins big at Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark.—Oglethorpe dominated at Hendrix Sunday afternoon, with the Stormy Petrels defeating the Warriors 94-66 for a 1-1 record over the weekend.

Malachi Dooley led with 17 points and four steals, followed by Perry Robinson with 16 points and nine rebounds. Dylan Pumpian made 12 points and three assists while Jordan James and Joe Helenbrook had nine points each. This was a season high for Helenbrook, who also had seven rebounds. Jackson Kemp made a season high of five assists.

"We had a complete game today," said head coach Philip Ponder. "We defended, we executed our offense, we shot the ball well. It was nice to have a game like this. We dug ourselves a hole with all of these close losses, but we've won two out of three so we're slowly trying we get back in the mix. We finish with four of our last six at home, so we're looking to go on a run as we start the second half of the conference season."

Robinson and Dooley combined for an 8-0 lead in the very beginning, warning the Warriors of what was to come. Hendrix got on the board with a 3-pointer but never found a run that could rival the Petrels. Robison, James, Pumpian and Dooley created multiple 8-0 and 6-0 runs throughout the period. Pumpian drained a last-second 3-pointer for an impressive 47-28 lead at halftime.

The second period began with a 3-pointer from Mason Kemp plus a jumper from Robinson. Once again, the Petrels took off with no mercy. The period was highlighted by a 13-0 run put together by Robinson, Pumpian, Dooley, Helenbrook and James. That run gave Oglethorpe a 30-point lead. The Warriors were in the trenches, and after one last basket from Christian Williams, Oglethorpe prevailed 94-66.
