ROANOKE, Va. – Oglethorpe's cross country teams closed out their regular season at the South Region Preview in Roanoke, Virginia, marking their final race before the Southern Athletic Association Championships on Saturday. Both the men's and women's squads turned in strong performances.
Men's Highlights
- Graduate student Ashton Deriso continued his impressive season, leading the Stormy Petrels with a top-eight finish and a time of 24:46.6 in the 8k.
- Senior Zachary Benner, a two-time SAA athlete of the week this season, followed with a solid effort, securing a top 40 finish in 26:21.4.
- Zeno Goss, Ugohnofure Awarieta and Demetrius Moore rounded out a strong day for the Oglethorpe men's team, all inside or near the top 150.
- The Petrels took eighth in the field of 21 competing teams.
Women's Highlights
- Senior Hannah Rhodes led the Petrels, finishing the 6k in 23:41.9 to pace the team.
- Freshman Kirsten Rose followed closely behind, earning a top 40 finish with a time of 23:56.9, while sophomore Elliott Baker clocked 25:23.6.
- Mari-Rosa Colon and Evelyn Parral also landed in the top 150 to round out the women's team.
- The Petrels finished 11th in the field of 20 teams.
