ATLANTA - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels secured another big home win, defeating the Belhaven Blazers 3-0 Friday night.
Gracie Sims and Aubrey Hill led with eight kills, and Camdyn George made seven. Abby Wheeler made 11 digs, while George, Madison Williams and Ella Hughes had three blocks each.
Williams earned the first point of the match with a clean kill, and the Petrels quickly moved to a 4-1 lead. The Blazers took a small lead a few times in the first half of the set, but Sims and Hill made kills to stomp them out. Oglethorpe quickly headed to the 25-point mark, and after a slight delay by Belhaven, won the set by eight points.
The Petrels dominated the second set, racking up a 10-3 lead thanks to kills by Alise Mayers, Hill and George. Williams later headed an 8-0 run, then the Petrels won the set 25-11.
Belhaven brought more oomph in the third set, with no clear leader until the midway point. Two kills from Hill plus a service ace by Laney Higgins gave Oglethorpe an 18-11 lead that would help the Petrels coast for the rest of the set. Hughes and Morgan Phillips added another kill each to cement Oglethorpe's dominance. Belhaven did manage to earn a few more points than they should have, but the cushion held. After two kills from Mayers, Oglethorpe won the third and final set 25-20 for a clean 3-0 game win.
