ATLANTA- Leading the stat line for the fourth time in a row after her second Southern Athletic Association athlete of the week honor in a row, Keimarya Rivera posted 15 points and four rebounds in a strong road game versus Agnes Scott College. In addition to an impressive performance from freshman guard Marlie Battle, who tallied nine points and a near-record nine steals, along with Anna Conza and Sheraton Foster both recording eight points, the Oglethorpe women's basketball team finished the win 65-39, making it their fourth straight win to start this season.
The game began entirely on the side of the Petrels as layups from Rivera and Battle made the score 7-0 in the first two minutes of the first quarter. Jaden Winfrey maintained the Petrels' lead after an assist from Rivera to increase the lead by 11 points. In the first quarter, the Petrels scored seven points off turnovers and 14 points from the paint.
After a dominating first quarter, the Stormy Petrels never looked back. A good 3-pointer from Briley Elder, assisted by Conza, moved the score to 25-10. A huge steal from Conza and a defensive rebound from Malia Melton maintained the Petrels' defensive presence ensuring that the Scotties would not tie.
A good drained three from Conza started off the third quarter strong followed by a steal from Battle, keeping Agnes Scott at bay. Two back-to-back baskets from the 3-point line from Sheraton Foster and Conza helped secure the lead and made the score 42-20.
Genny Rogers picked up a defensive rebound of her own and made a layup to follow. Another rebound, this time by Elder, followed by a jumper in the paint by Battle ended the third 53-29. This was the Petrels' strongest quarter from the 3-point line, going 4-7 (57%) and shooting 53% from the field (8-15). They also were perfect from the free throw line, shooting 2-2.
Gaby LoPresti tallied a steal in the fourth to set the defensive tone for the quarter. Sarah Kate Evans made a layup along with Rogers to make the score 61-35. The Petrels never let up the lead the whole game improving to 4-0 for their best start to a season in the last four seasons.
