ATLANTA- The Oglethorpe women's basketball team faced a tough No. 9 ranked Hope College on Wednesday. Despite huge defensive efforts and Anna Conza's leading offense with 14 points, two rebounds and two assists, the Stormy Petrels fell 68-57.
Marlie Battle opened the game with a 3-pointer to kickstart the offense, yet the Flying Dutch responded with three back-to-back 3-pointers of their own, leaving the Petrels stunned and down 13-3. Looking for a response, Keimarya Rivera and Lauren Phillip tapped in a few baskets of their own moving the momentum to Oglethorpe's side. Climbing out of their early deficit, the Petrel's went into halftime down 32-19.
The second half presented offensive power as the Petrels seemed to get settled. Briley Elder was successful from the 3-point line along with an additional three from Conza and clean free throws from Malia Melton. Jaden Winfrey and Conza continued to push the Petrels closer to the Flying Dutch with their success from range, but could not close the gap in time, finishing 68-57.
