Women's lacrosse shuts out Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels recorded their first shutout of the season with a big 19-0 win against the Huntingdon Hawks Tuesday night. Senior Makenna Bowens led with six goals.

Camryn Fowler and Sarah Liang followed with three goals, then Mariah Butler, Ellis Mitchum and Anna Ramsden scored two apiece. Mitchum won nine draw controls while Savannah Freeman made one goal and two assists and won four draw controls. Goalie Tori Perez saved all three shots from Huntingdon.

Mariah Butler scored the first two goals of the game, the second of which was man-down. Bowens, Fowler and Ramsden quickly followed with goals of their own for an easy 5-0 lead. The Hawks gained possession for a few minutes, but once Mitchum regained it there was no going back. Oglethorpe ended the first quarter up 8-0. The Petrels pumped the breaks in the second quarter, with just two goals: one from Liang then Bowens.

Fowler quickly made the first goal of the second half, thanks to an assist from Bowens. The third quarter was a similar slow pace to the second period, but energy picked back up in the fourth. Mitchum got the final quarter going with a 14-0 lead, and the Petrels put up five more goals for the big 19-0 win.
