SEWANEE, Tenn.—An 8-0 run early in the first quarter helped the Oglethorpe women's basketball team come away with an eight-point win, 73-65, over Sewanee Sunday afternoon in a Southern Athletic Association game on the road. It marked the Stormy Petrels' fourth win in the last five games.
Sewanee scored a bucket to take the lead on the opening possession of the game, but Oglethorpe quickly responded with the aforementioned run that would put the Petrels into the lead for good. While Sewanee was able to trim the deficit to one a few times in the first quarter, Oglethorpe kept the pressure up and went into the halftime locker room ahead by seven, 29-22.
The Oglethorpe lead swelled to as many as 18 in the second half after a 21-10 run midway through the third quarter. This featured scoring from six Petrels and a 7-0 stretch to cap it off.
Sewanee came back to within 10 at the 2 ½ minute mark, but Oglethorpe sealed the win at the free-throw line, going 11-for-12 from the charity stripe in the closing minutes.
