Petrels sweep LaGrange

ATLANTA – The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels defeated LaGrange 7-0 to maintain a clean sheet against the Panthers and start a winning streak on Saturday.

Noah George and Bailey Raymond combined for a quick 6-1 win in doubles #1. Tyler Hymel and Nicolas Ntayagabiri, then Jefferson Page and Neal Nankani, followed with 6-3 wins on both other courts.

Figge Pernfors and Kellen Simmons made quick work of their opponents with 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-1 wins, respectively. Nicolas Zapata also recorded a swift 6-1, 6-2 win. Zack Raymond and Daniel Leard had more pushback from their opponents, but still walked away with dominating wins in straight sets.

Match Notes

  • Simmons and Sam Wasko improved their singles records to a team-best 2-1 record.
  • Oglethorpe is still undefeated against LaGrange, with a 7-0 record since 2011.
  • This was Nankani, Hymel, and B. Raymond's first doubles matches of the season.

The Stormy Petrels will embark on their annual spring break trip to Orlando beginning Sunday, March 9. They will face North Central College on Sunday, Wheaton and the US Coast Guard Academy on Monday, Emerson and Skidmore on Tuesday, then Southeastern on Wednesday. The next home match will be Tuesday, March 25, at 4 p.m. against Piedmont.
