Box Score 4 ORLANDO, Fla.—The Oglethorpe men's tennis team played a total of five matches during their spring break trip including three straight wins before falling in the last match finishing an overall successful week in Orlando. Oglethorpe's women also competed in a sequence of matches for spring break, but fell in each.
The Stormy Petrels on the men's side started the week with a loss to North Central 6-1. The second match against Wheaton was rained out, but they bounced back to beat the United States Coast Guard Academy 6-1, Emerson 6-1, and Skidmore 4-3. The trip ended with a loss to NAIA No. 4 Southeastern, 7-0.
Day One vs. Northcentral
- Despite half of the singles set going into a tiebreak only one ended with the Stormy Petrels on top.
- Bailey Raymond picked up Oglethorpe's only point in a hard-fought 6-2, 6-2 result.
Day Two vs. the United States Coast Guard Academy
- The second day consisted of a strong win over the United States Coast Guard Academy, starting with a sweep of the doubles and ending with winning five of the six singles.
- Noah George let nothing get past him winning 6-0, 6-0.
- In two of the six singles, the Stormy Petrels went to a tiebreak with Jefferson Page pulling ahead 10-2 and Kellen Simmons barely falling behind 13-11.
Day Three vs. Emerson and Skidmore
- Day three started with another 6-1 win this time against Emerson. Two of the three doubles were close calls, but in the end Oglethorpe pulled ahead for all three.
- Raymond had the best singles set winning 6-1, 6-0.
- For the second match of the day against Skidmore the Stormy Petrels struggled a bit with the doubles, only taking two.
- As they moved on to the singles they were able to get back into the groove winning three of six after two went into tiebreaks.
- Simmons won his tiebreak 13-11 but Sam Wasko fell 12-10. In the end, they won the third match in a row 4-3, with Simmon's earning the clinching point.
Women's Highlights
- Oglethorpe fell in all five matches of the week, several of which paired the Petrels against nationally recognized teams.
- Maddie Nolen faced the No. 49 individual in the nation against North Central, and the team faced the No. 5 NAIA team in the nation against Southeastern.
- Apsana Raj had one of the tightest matches of the week but fell 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles against Northwestern.
