Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Tennis wraps up busy home weekend

ATLANTA—The Oglethorpe tennis teams wrapped up a busy home weekend with dual matches against Centre and Sewanee on Saturday and Sunday. The men split the weekend with a 5-2 win over Centre but a 6-1 loss to Sewanee. Oglethorpe's women fell in both matches by scores of 7-0.

Doubles pairs Jefferson Page/Zack Raymond and Kellen Simmons/Figge Pernfors got the Stormy Petrels off on the right track in Saturday's win over Centre, helping clinch a crucial doubles point for an early 1-0 lead.

It could have been a deciding factor as each of the bottom three singles matches went to a third set. Instead, Noah George, Pernfors and Simmons all turned in straight-sets wins at No. 5, No. 3 and No. 1 singles, Simmons clinching the overall victory with his 6-4, 6-3 win over Centre's top individual.

Finishing out Oglethorpe's scoring against Centre was Bailey Raymond, who bounced back from dropping the second set in a tiebreak, winning 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-2.

On Sunday, Simmons earned the lone point for Oglethorpe with a 6-4, 6-2 win, his 13th win of the season, eighth in non-tournament play, and fourth win in conference.
